Why is it important?
It is important to integrate fitness education into the on-court training of tennis athletes. Tennis coaches need a broad understanding of the many different areas involved in tennis specific fitness which includes stroke and injuries, movement mechanics, speed and power training, tennis specific conditioning, planning and periodization, nutrition, recovery, testing, and assessments along with many other aspects that help improve the training of tennis players. Although drills and exercises are very important to incorporate, it is even more important to understand how and why to structure certain activities and how best to included the drills and exercises in an effective tennis program. The fitness knowledge will help better train tennis players to improve on-court performance such as greater racket speed, more power on strokes, and quicker movements as well as helping individuals limit the likelihood of injury along with speeding recovery.
